Reddit users talk back

There’s been some chatter about Lillian on Reddit… some of it has devolved into inane claptrap, some of it has evolved into actual policy dialogue with both sides represented.  This site, however, is about the American Dream, and individuals’ visions for how to restore this institution.

That said, here are some of the comments that caught our eyes:

What a great clip. In my limited experience I’ve found that wisdom isn’t boastful or loud. Wisdom is often a whisper. Like Lillian. And it’s when we shut out mouths and LISTEN that we gain knowledge. Thanks Lillian.

This lady would tear Sarah Palin apart in a debate.

She only looks 78.

Let’s do everything we can to grant this wish.

Surfside Serenity stands with Lillian.

Today we thank Barbara from Surfside Serenity for her kind words about Lillian:

As I watched this video I was struck by the fact that this woman in her late 90’s is actively intersted in creating change in our country and that she believes Obama and Biden will bring us change. I have often wondered over the last weeks how open minded the older voters will be as we go to the poles on November 4th. If Lillian is any indication I need not worry!

Barbara’s blog is, in her words, about “daily adventures in motherhood, education, elder care and artistic expression… and politics until November.” Do pay her blog a visit… this Mama for Obama writes from the heart.

Time Goes By: elder bloggers like Lillian

TimeGoesBy.net is a site run by Ronni Bennett, an ex-New Yorker now relocated to Portland, Maine.  She writes about “what it’s really like to get older.”  Many thanks to Ronni for featuring Lillian on her site this week.

Among the comments: “May we all find our convictions and follow them as Lillian has.” And even better: “Lillian is fabulous. No one could ever accuse her of having any form of dementia. Maybe I will be lucky and be able to keep mentally alert like her. Wait! It’s too late.”

Press from The Political Carnival

Thanks to Paddy over at The Political Carnival, for her kind words about Lillian… and a very insightful post about the McCain camp’s curious target of Maine.  (Wotching, we agree — we might all be better off starting our morning with her!)

Story from Melissa Howard

My name is Melissa Howard I live in Upstate NY.

I have 3 children and my rights as an American are under attack. I want my childrens future to be bright. I am a lesbian who has been in a relationship for 19+ years and I want people to know my family and to realize that we are just like everyone else except when it comes to the privileges and rights that other Americans enjoy that I can’t.

I believe that this is the election of my lifetime. We must get it right this time. I am involved this year because I want my children to know there are times to make a stand for your beliefs and convictions. When people ask my children why we are voting for Obama they proudly say because he believes in all families, he likes my family. That is the easiest for them to understand.

In NY our economy is horrible the taxes worst and no light at the end of the tunnel. Obama is our light at the end of the tunnel, the hope. Just to have hope in this day is something.

So we The Davis-Howard family are proud supporters of Obama/Biden. The hope for the Change we can believe in!!

Pam’s House Blend: focus on senior voters

Our friends over at Pam’s House Blend posted earlier this week about how in barely one month, Barack Obama has erased a 14-point deficit among senior voters (age 65 and up), and now leads McCain by four points. This is a reflection of the same trend we’re seeing in the video — people who have been around a long time, seen our country at its best and at its worst, and could easily give up on the United States and its electoral process.

But they believe too strongly in the American Dream to stay on the sidelines. Read the article.

Many thanks to Pam Spaulding and Julien Sharp.
